ABOUT US

Barrio Comida is a restaurant in the historic City of Durham inspired by the neighbourhood taquerias dotted across Mexico and North America, community hubs where people gather to eat, drink and have a great time. Ours drinks offering follows this same path with seasonal Mexican inspired cocktails and daily made aguas frescas alongside wines and mezcales that are made with care and a connection to the land they are grown in.

We go to great lengths to source and import artisanal dried products that are the backbone of Mexican cuisine including heirloom corn from various smallholdings around Mexico which is nixtamalized and stone ground daily in our kitchen. We also work very closely with our UK producers, farmers and fishermen who we believe are the best in their fields. This includes Oaxacan coffee roasted down the road from us, ultra-fresh Cornish day boat fish, ethically reared rare breed meat and produce grown with care and respect for the land.
