About Us



Barrio Comida began as a monthly pop-up Mexican food event in the North East of England as a labour of love. Growing up in California, Mexican food and culture became a big part of our life, but after moving to England 10 years ago we craved those flavours and so eventually Barrio Comida was born. 

Our Taqueria consists of two shipping containers on Newcastle's Quayside with seating for around 30 people. We run on mostly natural fuel consisting of a large custom charcoal grill and wood oven and therefore most of our tacos and dishes revolve around this style of cooking which we feel makes all the difference in flavour. We take ingredients very seriously and source from what we believe are some of the best producers in the country. We use multiple Mexican importers to ensure we get the best chili's, Masa, Beans and Mexican products we are able to get our hands on. All our Cheese is made by the Gringa Dairy in Peckham London which is the only Mexican Dairy in the UK. Our rare breed beef and herb fed free range chickens come from Taste Tradition in North Yorkshire and are all happy animals and fantastic quality. All our Dayboat Fish and Shellfish comes either from our business partner Adam Riley Via North Shields fish quay down the road or Kernow Sashimi Based in Cornwall who deal in some of the best day boat fish in the country.

Our menu focuses mainly on tacos, with a selection of smaller dishes to snack on while your tacos are being cooked to order.  Our corn tortillas are made fresh before every service with our Lenin Tortilla machine that we've imported from Mexico. We produce a classic 15cm tortilla with a suggested serving of around 3 per person. We aim to produce fairly traditional style Mexican tacos while using the best of British and Mexican ingredients to create tacos very similar to what we grew up eating in California Taquerias but also drawing on our experiences from working in some fantastic restaurants around the UK. Our drinks menu is very in keeping with our style with all our cocktails being made using only premium 100% agave Tequilas and Mezcals. While we do whip up a mean Margarita we are also keen to promote the lesser known Mexican drinks such as our house Michelada and Artisanal Mezcals. Soft drinks are not forgotten about and play a large part in our drinks list with our Agua Frescas being made fresh in house daily and changing in line with seasonality.

We are located on the Quayside Seaside just in front of the Newcastle Law Courts. Closest parking is 2 minutes walk at the Sandgate car park. Closest Metro is Central Station and about a 10 minute walk. Q3 bus also stops just opposite the Restaurant.
